Jacks Foodland is located at 5564 Highway 55 East (Eva-Fairview Highway) Eva, Alabama 35621.
Jacks Foodland has proudly served the town of Eva and the surrounding Communities for over 40 years with a good quality Grocery Store, providing small town hospitality with sincere customer care.
The story of Jack's Foodland started with one couple, Jack and Imogene Hopper. In 1961, they foresaw the need of a Grocery Store for the Town of Eva. Therefore, in the spring 1961, they opened their first grocery store, "Jack's Store". It was a small one room country store offering the basic canned goods and supplies. As time went by and business increased, they realized the need for an larger grocery and merchandise store.
Therefore, in July 1965, Jack, Imogene and Nell Latham moved Jacks Store into a new block building, 1/2 mile north from the old location and opened the new "Hopper's General Merchandise".
This Store carried everything from a full service gas station, to clothes, shoes, grain, feed, hardware supplies, plumbing supplies and a Grocery Store with a butcher shop.
Hoppers General Merchandise operated for the next 22 years, supplying the needs for the town of Eva and surrounding areas. Nevertheless, as times changed and the small town of Eva began to grow and prosper, Jack and Imogene once again began to realize the need to expand their business to better serve their customers.
Therefore, in the spring of 1986, ground was broke on a new 10,000 square foot metal frame building to house a new full service Grocery Store. Jack Hopper contracted with Mitchell Grocery Corporation to bring a Foodland Supermarket into the building.
On March 16, 1987, Jacks Foodland Supermarket opened it's doors for business. Ronnie Knop was hired as Store Manager, Nell Latham resigned as assistant store manager and went to work in the meat department, Randy Wren was hired as assistant store manager, Lynn Boyd was hired as Meat Department Manager and Tim Ford was hired as Produce Manager.
The old "Hoppers General Merchandise" was converted into a hardware store/gas station and renamed "Hoppers Hardware Store".
In May 1999, Jack and Imogene Hopper decided after 38 years, to retire from the daily operations of the business. Therefore, they turned the Hoppers Hardware Store over to their Son and Daughter-in-law, Mike and Jimmie Hopper. They turned over the Grocery Store to the son-in-law and Daughter, Larry and Janice Smith.
As business continued to increase in the grocery store, Larry and Janice realized the need to expand the Produce and Dairy Department. As a result, in the spring of 2004, Larry and Janice added a 5,000 square foot addition onto the store and renovated these departments which enabled them to further meet the needs of the customers.
In May 2005, Lynn Boyd retired and Anthony Lindsey took over as Meat Department Manager. As business continued to grow Larry and Janice realized the need to expand and renovate the Meat Department to enable further growth. Therefore in January of 2008, the Meat Department was renovated and expanded as well.
Today, Jack's Foodland Supermarket continues to grow and strive to meet the needs of our customers, while continuing to hold forth the standard that was set by our founders, Jack and Imogene Hopper, "a good quality Grocery Store providing small town hospitality with sincere customer care".
